How to Choose a Sofa That Matches Your Style
A sofa is one of the most important pieces of furniture that can be found in a home because it is one of the most used items in the home. sofas are used for entertaining friends and family, relaxing at the end of the day, even sleeping in certain situations. You will want to choose a sofa for the home that is not only comfortable but complements the style of the room where the sofa will be placed, creating a lovely décor that will help you relax and enjoy that particular area of the home.
There are many different styles of sofas that can be chosen for placement in the home, but all of these different styles can be sorted in two main categories; traditional and contemporary. Traditional sofa styles are the styles that have been around for generations and can generally be identified by the curved lines of the sofa back and arms designs to make the overall look of the sofa softer and more comfortable. All other sofa styles are considered to be contemporary, including modern designs, sectionals, and sofas designed with many straight lines.
After the person has decided whether they would like a traditional or contemporary sofa for their home, the next important decision that should be made is what type of back they would like to have the sofa to have. Sofas that have high backs that extend to the top of the person’s head while they are sitting down are very popular today as more people prefer to lean back and relax on them. Many people enjoy sofas that have shorter, more stylish backs for sofas that are mainly used for entertaining guests in rooms that have a lot of décor items present in them, because the shorter back means that the sofa will not overwhelm the décor of the room.
Another decision that must be considered is whether the homeowner would like a sofa with exposed legs or with covered legs. The exposed legs of the sofa can be purchased to match the other furniture present in the room and can be made of wood, metal, or finished plastic. Some sofas have very short exposed legs, almost like the sofa is sitting on short blocks, while other sofa styles have thin seats and exposed legs that are up to 1 ½ feet high. The legs can be decorated in other ways as well, with balls on the bottom of the feet, metal bands surrounding the legs, or intricate designs carved into the legs for decorative purposes.
The color and fabric of the sofa is one of the last items that you will need to consider when choosing a sofa to match the décor of the home. Some furniture retailers will have many different fabric patterns and colors for a person to choose from for each of the sofas that they have available on the showroom floor and the salesperson will be able to steer you towards the fabric samples that will work on the sofa that has been chosen. Other furniture retailers will have a few fabric samples and colors that can be used for the sofa next to the sofa on a peg so that people that are sitting on the sofa trying them out can look to the side and immediately see what colors and patterns are available for that particular sofa.
